Discover Northfield

Northfield is a small, cozy suburb located on the North Shore, and is primarily residential.
Settlers began to arrive in the area in the mid-1800s, and the village was incorporated in 1926, attracting families who liked its small size and country-like atmosphere — which still exists today. The area features several parks and wooded areas for outdoor enthusiasts, and its boundaries are easily drivable or bikeable. With good traffic luck, driving into downtown Chicago for an outing could take you less than 45 minutes.

Northfield features some of the best educational opportunities — both public and private — in the state, including the reputed New Trier High School, whose students traditionally net high scores on the ACT and overwhelmingly attend college. Sunset Ridge School District 29 recently finished construction on a brand-new elementary school (4th through 8th grades), a spectacular project that cost over $25 million to complete and centers around a modern, open-space learning model. If you prefer a private option for your children, Christian Heritage Academy is a K-12 school that provides faith-based education and is well-regarded throughout Illinois.

In downtown Northfield, you can also find the Sunset Ridge Country Club, which has been around for nearly 100 years and boasts a bevy of fun facilities, including clay and platform tennis courts, an 18-hole golf course and a skeet & trap range. Grab a bite to eat at The Happ Inn Bar & Grill (if you want pub/comfort food), Three Tarts Bakery, Taco Nano and El Tequila for Mexican food, or Tapas Gitana for Spanish delicacies. If you’re up for a short drive, the Chicago Botanic Gardens, the Kohl Children’s Museum and the Holocaust Museum & Education Center are just a few short miles away from the heart of Northfield.

If you’re looking for a quieter place to settle down that includes top-notch educational and social opportunities, Northfield or its neighbors Winnetka, Glencoe, Highland Park or Evanston, might be right for you.
