Relaxing During the Winter Months

Relaxing During the Winter Months

With the winter months nearing, it’s important to take a deep breath and find ways to unwind. The constant news cycle, pandemic, cold weather, and lack of seeing friends/family can cause added stress during the cold months. Below are a few tips on how to relax and destress in the months ahead:

  • Read: Given the amount of screen time we experience, reading can provide a good outlet and distraction. Find a good book and make a goal to read a certain number of pages a day to ensure you stay on track.

  • Yoga/Meditation: There are numerous virtual exercise classes being offered given the pandemic. Find a virtual yoga or meditation class to unwind and focus your mind. You can turn off the lights, light a candle, and make your own yoga studio right from your home.

  • Get Fresh Air: While colder temperatures are quickly approaching, take every opportunity to get fresh air. Put on a mask and walk around the block or go for a quick jog to reset your mind and change your surroundings.

  • Facetime a Friend: People can find it especially challenging to feel connected right now. Take advantage of your technology and connect with family or friends as much as possible. Even a ten minute call can lift spirits and make you feel connected to others.

  • Listen to music: Make a playlist, close your eyes, and take time for yourself. Music can take us all to different places and gives us space to clear our minds.

These tips and more will hopefully allow you to unwind and take care of yourself in the months ahead!
